Accessibility

Find information about design for universal accessibility on our means of transport.

We strive to meet the demands for universal design for the public transport in Trøndelag. Most buses, trams and boats are accessible to all.

  • Bus, Trondheim area

All buses have low entrances and ramps for easy boarding with wheelchairs. There are designated areas for wheelcahirs located near the driver. Wheelchairs must be secured.

All buses have door open buttons at several doors. On the front doors there are four buttons with different functions. When touching the two lower buttons upon boarding or disembarking, you call the driver's attention for extra time or assistance. Inside the bus there are also stop buttons that will give the driver the same message. When these buttons are pressed, the doors will not automatically close and the driver must close them manually.

If needed, drivers will always be able to leave the driver's seat to help those who may need it. This also applies to the metro buses, where the drivers sit somewhat more shielded.

There is usually room for wheelchairs with maximum dimensions:

    • Length 120 cm
    • Width 70 cm
    • Height 109 cm
    • Weight 300 kg

    Bus, regions

Most regional buses have a wheelchair lift. Buses without a lift have ramp. There are designated areas for wheelchairs in the bus. Wheelchairs must be secured.

    Boat

There is a landing for embarkment and disembarkment on all boats. The crew will assist you with disembarkment if requested. In cases of high or low water, there may be need for assistance at some docks.

There are designated areas with fasteners for wheelchairs in public areas.

    The toilets are universally designed.

    Ferry

All ferries have a ramp or landing for embarkment and disembarkment. The crew will assist you with disembarkment if requested. In case of high or low water, there may be need for assistance at some docks.

There are lifts or platform lifts in all ferries and designated areas with fasteners for wheelchairs in public areas with the exception of:

    • Route 960 Gutvik - Leka
    • Route 963 Eidshaug - Gjerdinga
    • Route 966 Borgan - Ramstadlandet
    • Route 985 Ølhammeren - Seierstad

The toilets are universally designed with exceptions of the ferries mentioned above.

    Tram

The carriages on the tram are not designed for universal accessibility and unfortunately there is no elevator or ramp in the carriages.

  • Bus, Stor-Trondheim

Most of the buses have low entrances for easy boarding with strollers.

There are designated areas for strollers on the bus. Strollers must always be safely fastened or held by an adult during transport.

The driver will assist with disembarkment if requested.

    Bus, regions

On regional buses, the stroller must be placed in the luggage compartment during the trip.

All buses that have a route number in the 300 and 400 series have at least two child seats for children from 0-3 years, and child seats for 3 years and over. Contact the driver.

    Boat

There is a landing for embarkment and disembarkment on all boats. The crew will assist you with disembarkment if requested.

Route 800, Trondheim - Brekstad - Kristiansund, has children's rooms with station facilities on board their vessels.

    Ferry

All ferries have a ramp or landing for embarkment and disembarkment. The crew will assist you with disembarkment if requested.

There is an elevator or platform lift in all ferries with the exception of:

    • Route 960 Gutvik - Leka
    • Route 963 Eidshaug - Gjerdinga
    • Route 966 Borgan - Ramstadlandet
    • Route 985 Ølhammeren - Seierstad

    Tram

The carriages on the tram are not designed for universal accessibility and unfortunately there is no elevator or ramp in the carriages. Strollers must be lifted in and out of the carriage.

  • There are text-to-speech solutions for announcement of the next departures at several bus stops in Trondheim.

On all buses, with the exception of school routes and local routes in the 500 series in region, the next stop is announced over the speaker as well as displayed on a screen. On a boat, the boat is displayed in a map and the next stop is announced over the speaker.

Buses, trams and boats are designed with good contrasts for people with reduced vision.
